Letter: If you're in Ward 5, vote Smith

“To the editor:

Watching the ward candidate’s forum in person on Oct. 19, I was impressed by the engagement and excitement of Ward 5 candidate Owen Smith. Owen was earnest, enthusiastic, and energized.

I can tell he’s ready to tackle the myriad issues facing his ward, and our city, and it made me wish I lived in Ward 5 so I could cast my vote for him.

I’m with Owen on the important issues.

He understands that climate change is a real threat to our city and wants to make sure we proactively invest in our infrastructure. His background in civil engineering informs his thinking about street and sidewalk safety, and about how to approach projects in smart ways.

He is also a strong supporter of Newburyport Youth Services. It’s time we broke ground on their new building and dispense with the endless delays that will only end up costing the city more money. Owen spoke passionately about his commitment to getting this project going.

This is an important city election, so please do your part on Tuesday, Nov. 7. If you’re in Ward 5, vote for Owen Smith.”
